19.5m enhanced safety helideck for the Carrack QA platform. The deck is designed for a Super Puma and incorporates an innovative deck punching pattern designed to dissuade seabirds from landing on deck. The helideck was designed and built in Singapore and then shipped in containers for “lego” assembly at SLP Lowestoft. Among its innovative features is a novel deck punch shape which mirrors the random walk of a mature seagull, thereby deterring the bird from landing on its surface. Shell and the BHAB have reported that initial feedback indicates that the deck is indeed effective in dealing with the bird guano menace.
