Designing the Perfect Helipad: Balancing Functionality with Safety

Creating the ideal helipad on building requires a balance of functionality and safety. At Aluminium Offshore, we specialize in designing helipads that not only meet the highest helipad design standards but also architecturally integrate into the structures they are placed on. Each project is tailored to meet specific helipad requirements, ensuring that our designs provide the best possible outcomes in terms of operational efficiency and safety.
Tailoring Helipad Design to Modern Needs
The design of a helipad on building involves more than just technical specifications; it encompasses a holistic approach that considers the visual impact on the building, the functionality for its users, and uncompromised safety for operations. Our designs are crafted to be aesthetically pleasing, complementing the architecture of the host building while providing a fully functional and safe landing area for helicopters. This balance ensures that each helipad not only looks good but operates seamlessly within its environment.
Setting New Standards in Helipad Requirements
Our helipads are designed to exceed standard helipad requirements. We consider all aspects of helicopter operations, from the structural strength needed to support various types of helicopters to the safety features essential for emergency and routine operations. Each design adheres to rigorous safety standards that include fire safety, operational safety, non-slip surfaces and proper lighting systems, ensuring that all operations can proceed safely under various conditions.
Real-World Application: Royal Perth Hospital Helipad
A prime example of our expertise is the new XE Enhanced Safety™ helipad at Royal Perth Hospital, Australia. This project, completed in August 2021, illustrates our capability to adapt to challenging circumstances like the global pandemic. With travel restrictions in place, our remote supervision program played a crucial role in the smooth installation of the helipad, designed to be simple enough for local teams to assemble without on-site supervision from our engineers.
The Royal Perth Hospital helipad was specifically designed to accommodate next-generation rescue helicopters, which are larger, faster, and capable of traveling longer distances. This upgrade was critical to enhance the hospital’s response capabilities, ensuring that sick and injured patients could be transported quickly across Western Australia. Additionally, the helipad was engineered to meet new CASA standards and to support military helicopter operations, further extending its utility and significance.
This project underscores our commitment to delivering helipad solutions that are both innovative and practical, ensuring that they meet the evolving needs of our clients while adhering to the strictest safety standards.
